Does asking a credit card company to lower your available credit affect your credit score?

I dont think it does but I also dont think thats a good idea right now. You should probably just keep yourself where you are as you never know if you do that you may not be able to get it back when you need it... considering the economy right now.|||It can't hurt you. Credit score is determined by a few different factors. One of which is the amount of your available lines of credit. If you're making $35,000 a year and have $15,000 in available credit, that can hurt you. But asking to have that $15,000 reduced to $5,000 won't hurt because you'll be less of a risk of defaulting. The only reason I can think of that it might hurt you is because they'd have to do a credit check (which can hurt you in the short term), but I don't even think they would do that if you're just asking to reduce your credit, not increase it.
